Dr Hamzah Khalaf is a board certified Ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained retinal surgeon. He relocated to Texas in 2016 to further his training and escape the Midwest winters of Ohio. Dr Khalaf specializes in Ophthalmology and retinal diseases and surgery.
He obtained his college degree in an accelerated program of 2 years with Magna Cum Laude distinction from Kent State University. Then, he attended medical school at Northeast Ohio Medical University. Following that, he completed Ophthalmology at SUMMA Health System where he served as the Chief Resident. Due to his research project on a mouse model of ROP, he was awarded the James S. Tan, MD Award for Basic Science Research in 2014 and 2016. In Texas, he completed his Fellowship in Medical and Surgical Retina at Valley Retina Institute, PA in McAllen.
After completing his fellowship, he served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology in UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. In that position, he was directly involved in teaching and training Ophthalmology residents and Retina fellows.
Dr Khalaf presented posters at several national and international annual meetings such as the Association for research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and Aegean Retina. Furthermore, he was also a Sponsored Ambassador at Congressional Advocacy Day in Washington, DC. As an Ophthalmologist, he volunteers locally in San Antonio as well as internationally.
Valerie joined our team in February 2021 as our very first employee. She began medical office work in 2018 but has been in the medical field for 10 years previously as a CNA. She handles all thing from scheduling to referrals. When she is not at work you can find her chasing after her adorable but oh so wild four year old son, cooking and going on road trips with her family. Valerie is kind, compassionate and always has a smile on her face.

Meeyen is originally from Massachusetts and moved to Texas in 2014. She has worked as an Ophthalmic Technician since 2013 but has over 10 years of experience in Ophthalmology with a certification in Ophthalmic Assisting. During her spare time, she enjoys traveling to new places, dining out and spending time with her family and 2 dogs.

Dennale joined Generations Retina in September 2022. She is a certified medical office specialist and is currently working on her Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management. She is married with 2 children, 4 step (bonus) children, and 2 grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, reading, gardening, and anything outdoors.
